9.10.1 Three Uses of Groups in Idea Generation

Groups may be used by the manager in a number of ways for improvement. Three important ways are brainstorming, nominal groups, and Delphi decision-making as depicted in Fig. 9.7.

a. Brainstorming    This is a popular method of encouraging creative thinking. Its main advantage is deferred judgement, by which all ideas—even unusual and impractical ones—are encouraged without criticism or evaluation.
