Indian culture is characterised by a tendency towards synthesis, absorbing various influences, which impinge on the culture, and internalising them. Similarly, conflicting points of view are also synthesised. In many cases, the synthesis may go to the extent of several contradictions existing at the same time. This may be a result of a combination of several characteristics. The characteristic of synthesis has helped the culture to survive over thousands of years, and has helped to develop a tradition which is quite unique in the world.
