In order to be able to invent a new game mechanic, we need to go back to some theory. Understanding how to classify different mechanics, why they are fun, and what kind of player they appeal to is extremely important if we want to come up with something new. Some sort of seed is required to grow our innovative ideas into new game mechanics.
