High-intensity and storytelling

As things start to blow up and the tempo picks up, the plot might need to take a backseat. Most Hollywood action movies deliberately pause major plot developments for the duration of intense action sequences (car chases, fights, shootouts, and so on). These scenes can be great for light characterization, but suffer when trying to express complex motives, deep emotions, and intertwined storylines. The viewer will be too distracted by everything that’s going on to pay attention to more intricate and subtle aspects of the narrative.

Consider applying the same principle to your game and avoid putting heavily involved story elements in very intense sections of your game.
