Any time spent adding stuff to a prototype that is not directly related to answering the initial questions is time lost. Not only that, every unnecessary thing added to a prototype is a step toward the prototype code evolving into the final game. Be wary of anything that seems to be working better after some good art, animations, or effects are added. You will be tempted to think that just by looking good a game could hide its design flaws.
